Presenter Biography

Tony Carreira has been the President of K-LINE Insulators Limited since 1990. This is a polymer insulator manufacturing company that has operations in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean, and product sales around the world.

Prior to joining K-LINE INSULATORS, Tony held engineering and management positions with Ontario Hydro in Canada. During Tony's career at Hydro, he worked in the Research Division, Generation Division, Transmission Maintenance & Operations Division, and Distribution Design Department. His main expertise at Hydro encompassed electrical power distribution and transmission design, planning, construction, and maintenance.

Tony received his Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada) in 1978. He is a member of Professionals Engineers Ontario, CIEGRE, IEC< CSA, and is a life Senior Member of IEEE. He sits on various committees, working groups, and task forces in each of these organizations. Tony has authored or co-authored many technical papers and reports and has made numerous technical presentations at symposia and conferences around the world. He has also conducted various studies and prepared reports for CEATI, including topics related to latent transmission powerline hardware damage as well as the state of the art of live line work.

In 2017, Tony was presented with an award for the Most Innovative Paper on the subject of New Live Line Tools and Framing Arrangements at the ICOLIM Conference in Strasbourg, France. Tony was also the recipient of the INMR 2014 Conference in Strasbourg, France. Tony was also the recipient of the INMR 2014 Claude de Tourreil Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Field of Electrical Insulators. Tony was awarded an Honorary D.Phil. in 2019 from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in recognition of his high-level knowledge of Engineering and Technology in the discipline of Electrical Engineering.
