Kingston W.A.F.F.L.E.S. Community Robotics Lego Event Nov. 30, 2024 | All Day Event

Are you interested in volunteering to judge Kingston area children (ages 6-14) as they showcase research and robotics skills at the FIRST LEGO League Explore and FIRST LEGO League Challenge event on Nov 30, 2024?

In this event, over 200 children on 20+ teams explore ocean themes by researching real-world problems, proposing innovative solutions, and programming LEGO robots. After eight weeks of preparation, teams compete in a regional tournament for recognition, honours, and a chance to advance to the Ontario Provincial Championship.

When: November 30, 2024, 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM (times are approximations)

  • 8:15 AM - 8:45 AM: Opening Ceremonies
  • 8:45 AM - 12:30 PM: Judging and Practice Games
  • 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM: Championship Tournament and Judge Reviewing
  • 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM: Closing Ceremonies and Awards

Note: Judging for FLL Challenge takes place all day, while judging for FLL Explore takes place in the afternoon. Volunteers are needed for both.

Where: Duncan McArthur Hall, Queen’s University, 511 Union St

Who: This competition is organized by Kingston’s W.A.F.F.L.E.S. Community Robotics and hosted at Queen’s University.

About W.A.F.F.L.E.S Community Robotics

W.A.F.F.L.E.S. Community Robotics is a not-for-profit, volunteer-operated organization located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. We have a family of community-based FIRST Robotics programs for youth aged 4 through 18. Our teams are supported by a group of sponsors and mentors who are alumni or community professionals. 

FIRST, which stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is an international organization whose goal is to advance STEM education and inspire youth in the fields of science and technology. FIRST has a family of programs to reach different age groups: The FIRST LEGO League program has three divisions: Discover (ages 4-6), Explore (ages 7-9), and Challenge (ages 9-14). The program introduces youth to a team environment and engineering concepts through fun, hands-on projects.
