OACETT is proud to support Guidance Counsellors and Career Advisors towards ensuring they know about alternative career pathways in engineering through the Ontario college system and how professional associations like OACETT assist post-secondary students in their career journeys. In fact, high school students interested in engineering have many career pathways, including engineering technician diploma programs (2-year diploma) and engineering technologist diploma programs (3-year diploma) offered in all engineering disciplines.
Many of OACETT's members join the association as student members while in college, where they begin to work towards their certifications, as either Certified Technicians (C.Tech.) or Certified Engineering Technologists (C.E.T.). Once they graduate, they continue to work towards completing their certification. There are many benefits of membership for college students, which are laid out HERE. We encourage guidance counselors and career advisors to help educate students on the benefits of joining their professional association as a student, giving them a competitive edge when they enter the work world.
To support you, OACETT has teamed up with Chatterhigh to create gamified engineering technology career pathway modules for your students. These are freely available through the Chatterhigh platform, which can be accessed below.
OACETT has also created a suite of materials for Guidance Counsellors and Career Advisors, including our:
