Municipal Infrastructure Contract Administration/Inspection Program - Coming in 2024! June 13, 2023

Overview

OACETT is in the process of launching the second phase of its Municipal Infrastructure Contract Administration/ Inspection Program, which includes two voluntary designations, the Municipal Infrastructure Inspector (mii) and Municipal Infrastructure Contract Administrator (mica). The first phase of the program saw the successful completion of the designation pilot program by members working for the Region of Peel. The intent of the program is to enhance the quality and value of non-transportation-related municipal infrastructure investments. This program is modelled on the road construction designation program.

 Why have Municipal Infrastructure Contract Administration/Inspection Program?

  • Concern amoung municipal officials about the quality of projects and the availability of qualified persons to do the work.
  • Significant investments are being made across Ontario in municipal infrastructure, including water/wastewater systems and storm sewer systems.
  • Contract Administration and Inspection of these investments are either done in-house or contracted out with no certainty that staff are properly trained.
  • Provide opportunities for members working in infrastructure at municipalities/regions and consulting firms.
